Private german Lessons

German lessons for adults in London

Whether you need German for work, an upcoming move, or simply want to finally speak with confidence, I can help.

Maybe you’ve put in the hours on Duolingo or Babbel and wonder if you could actually hold your own in a real conversation. Or maybe you already know the answer: you understand more than you can say, and the moment a real person is speaking to you, you freeze.

I’m Jacqueline — a native German speaker with a creative background who grew up, studied and worked in Germany for 27 years before moving to London. I know from my own experience of mastering English as an adult exactly how it feels to search for words, freeze mid-sentence — and what really helps to get you talking. Read more

FAQ

Common questions

Adult German lessons are tailored to your level, your goals, and the point where speaking starts to feel easier and more natural.

Who are adult lessons for?

Adults who already have some German — from school, an app, a course, or time spent abroad — and want to actually use it. Whether that’s for work, travel, family, or simply speaking with more confidence, lessons are built around what you need.

What level do I need to start?

Some German already — even rusty or half-forgotten is fine. I adjust the speed I talk with to your level, so you’re always being just a little stretched without being lost. Lessons are conversation-led, so they work best once you have a foundation to build on rather than starting from your very first words.

Can lessons focus on conversation?

Yes — conversation is the heart of what I do. We talk about things that matter to you: spreadsheets and presentations, or home renovations, cycling and model planes — whatever your interests. I bring in grammar, vocabulary and phrases where they help rather than drilling them in isolation.

Can you help with grammar too?

Yes. Grammar isn’t the whole lesson, but when a particular point keeps tripping you up, we’ll work on it — so it becomes something that supports your speaking rather than holding it back.

Are lessons online or in person?

Both. Evening lessons are online, which many working adults find easiest. Daytime lessons can be in person at a café or your workplace, across North, Central and South West London.

How much do lessons cost?

Private one-to-one German lessons start from £65 per hour, and lessons for two start at £40 per person. You’ll find full details on the Pricing page. The first step is always a free consultation, so we can talk through what you need.

How long and how often are lessons?

I recommend a weekly 60-minute lesson — regular contact with the language is what moves speaking forward. Evening lessons are online; daytime lessons can be at a café or your workplace. We’ll find the right rhythm at the free consultation.

What happens at the free consultation?

We have a relaxed chat — by phone or video — about your level, what you need German for, and where speaking starts to break down. If it feels like a good fit, we arrange a first lesson. There’s no pressure and no obligation.
